NuCurrent Named a Finalist for Two 2016 ITA CityLIGHTS Awards
Wireless power company and CTO selected for innovation and success in driving growth in the technology industry and Illinois
(CHICAGO – August 10, 2016) – NuCurrent, the world leader in thin, high quality factor (Q), printed wireless power transfer antennas and modules, announces that the Illinois Technology Association (ITA) has named NuCurrent a finalist for two 2016 ITA CityLIGHTS Awards. NuCurrent is a finalist for the Industry Disrupter Award and CTO Dr. Vinit Singh is a finalist for the Technologist of the Year Award. Now in its 17th year, the ITA CityLIGHTS program honors companies and individuals whose innovation and success drive growth in the technology industry and in Illinois. Winners for each of the eight award categories will be announced at a gala event on September 15 at Morgan Manufacturing in Chicago.
The Industry Disrupter Award is presented to the company that has developed or introduced an ingenious, non-traditional, and innovative product or service that has significantly disrupted its industry. The Technologist of the Year Award is presented to the individual whose talent has championed true technology innovation, either through new applications of existing technology or the development of technology to achieve a truly unique product or service. All award finalists are selected by a panel of accomplished judges representing the Who’s Who in Illinois technology. The public can contribute to the selection of this year’s winners by voting from August 8-19 at www.itacitylights.com. Winners will be determined by a compilation of the judges’ scores and voting by the public at large in all categories except the Industry Champion, which is determined solely by the ITA Board of Directors.
“Year-over-year we have seen that the CityLIGHTS Awards is a barometer for success in the community, often predicting who or what will be the next big thing,” said Fred Hoch, CEO, ITA. “I can say with confidence that this year, with these finalists, we are setting the stage for tech greatness for years to come.”
“We are honored and humbled to again be recognized by the ITA as one of the top innovators driving growth in the technology industry and in Illinois,” said Singh. “Wireless power is changing the way the people interact with electronics – from mobile phones, wearables, IoT to cars – by removing the power cord. That’s why customers, including major mobile phone companies, furniture companies and automobile suppliers, continue to turn to NuCurrent because our patented antennas are the smallest form factors, lowest heating and fastest charging in the world. We’re making wireless power possible for mass adoption by consumers.”
As CTO of NuCurrent, Dr. Singh guides the company’s technology focus, IP leadership efforts, and product development roadmap. He helped the company develop a portfolio of over 50 patents granted or pending worldwide, leading to NuCurrent being named No. 1 on 2015 Crain’s Chicago Business Eureka Index with the highest per-capita patent output of any company in Illinois. The company was also listed in the top 10 percent overall in patent quality score, which considers the uniqueness of the invention covered by a patent and other important factors. Singh received his BS from Indian Institute of Technology and PhD in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University. While attending the university, he developed wireless telemetry systems for the world’s first Artificial Retina Implant, of which was recognized as a 2009 R&D 100 award winner.
This is the second consecutive year NuCurrent has been named a finalist in the ITA CityLIGHTS Awards. The company was named a Trailblazing Award Finalist (renamed the Industry Disrupter Award in 2016) and Singh was named a Technologist of the Year Award Finalist in 2015. NuCurrent was also named winner of the 2015 Chicago Innovation Up-and-Comer Awards.
