Job Title: Senior Software Engineer (Embedded)

Location: Bengaluru, India

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated Embedded Engineer to join our team and contribute to cutting-edge wireless power technology. As an individual contributor, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing embedded software features in systems using Qi, NFC, and Bluetooth protocols. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, reliable firmware for wireless power products.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain embedded firmware using Embedded C and Python

Understand existing codebases and implement new features or modify existing ones per customer requirements

Interface with hardware using protocols such as NFC, Qi, Bluetooth, I2C, SPI, UART

Develop test automation and scripting for system validation and regression testing

Collaborate with hardware, systems, and QA teams to ensure robust firmware design and implementation

Document software designs, processes, and debug findings effectively

Contribute to version control and issue tracking using GIT and JIRA

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field

5–8 years of hands-on experience in embedded firmware development

Proficient in Embedded C and working knowledge of Python

Solid understanding of embedded communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART, etc.

Experience with wireless power protocols such as Qi, NFC, and Bluetooth is highly desirable

Ability to use integrated development environments (IDEs) like Eclipse, VSCode, etc.

Familiarity with firmware debugging, performance tuning, and code optimization

Knowledge of tools like MATLAB, GIT, JIRA, and embedded test frameworks is a plus

Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment

Nice-to-Have:

Experience working in consumer electronics or wireless power solutions

Exposure to RTOS-based development or low-power firmware design

Familiarity with the usage of Hardware equipment like oscilloscopes, HW debuggers (Picoscope, J-Link), E-loads, etc.

Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies

NuCurrent is looking for a Senior Antenna Design Engineer (for Wireless Power) who is motivated to work closely with a talented and diverse engineering group to develop the most innovative wireless power solutions in the market and deliver superior solutions to our end customer. The candidate will work very closely with senior electrical hardware, electromagnetics, software, and mechanical engineers to design and bring custom coils and systems up from scratch and take innovative products to market. PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Collaborate within a small, agile team of electrical, mechanical, software engineers, and project managers on impactful projects for some of the world’s largest companies. The collaborative environment allows for rapid feedback, innovation, and career growth.

Design inductive wireless power coils for challenging applications in the consumer electronics, medical (implantable devices), industrial, and automotive industries.

Responsible for ensuring accurate in-situ modeling of wireless power antenna designs. This includes modeling and optimizing coil designs in the presence of permeable and conductive materials, and meticulously evaluating design safety through analysis of SAR, and induced E-field/H-field.

Contribute to NuCurrent’s proprietary technologies including Multi-Layer Multi-Turn, Through Metal Charging, Repeater (Metamaterial) technology, Cross-over and Multi-petal coil technology, EMI Comb filter designs, Interdigitated and Distributed capacitors.

Utilize and contribute to Gena, our EDA tools, by developing, testing and validating Numag, our proprietary EM solver

Bridge the gap between Antenna design and Computational electromagnetics by understanding output discrepancies, current distribution, meshing challenges, input boundary condition challenges, capacitive effects required to make the most efficient inductive links possible .

Enhance and develop coil geometry scripts to expand Numag EM solver capabilities

Develop physics‑informed neural networks with Numag data to steer our optimization algorithms—boosting accuracy while slashing computation time and resource use

Model, measure and select coil materials such as permeable material, coil substrate material, permanent magnet core, and coating materials to minimize losses due to proximity effects, skin effects, and capacitive effects.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead antenna design projects from concept to production on time and to spec

Ensure Simulation models correlate with Measurements

Stay abreast of the latest advances in antenna manufacturing, topologies, and optimization to maximize performance and minimize cost

Strong communication skills

Collaborate with academic partners to contribute to our R&D projects

Translate customer requirements into magnetic parameter constraints

Evaluate coil design for EMI, SAR, Nerve Stimulation, manufacturability, and others

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Advanced expertise in EM simulation tools such as ANSYS (HFSS and Maxwell), CST, COMSOL, or equivalent EM tools

Experience in Antenna design optimization

Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and confidently to management, partners, and key customers

Ability to write and develop strong code leveraging LLMs (MATLAB, python)

Ability to work individually and in small teams

Very comfortable with hands-on lab testing to validate simulations (applications related to wireless power, RFID, NFC a bonus)

PREFERABLE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Advanced expertise in computational electromagnetics, specially on Integral equation method solvers

Experience in wireless power applications, knowledge of inductive coupling systems, RF antenna design

Strong experience with RF equipment such as VNA, SA, RF amplifiers, Impedance analyzer

Knowledge in modeling magnetic, dielectric, and conductive materials within magnetic coupling systems on EM software and assessing their impact on performance

Knowledge of thermal management materials and experience in designing for thermal management

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

● Drive the development of wireless power systems with a team of electrical, mechanical, software, and electromagnetics engineers, from spec development to customer product delivery.

Architect, simulate, model, design, and validate wireless power systems and modules for a diversity of applications, including consumer electronics, industrial devices, automotive industry applications, medical applications and other exciting industries.

● Extensive hands-on design, troubleshooting, optimization, simulation, and modeling will be required.

● Be the customer-facing technical authority on NuCurrent wireless power technology ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Work closely with engineering team to translate product requirements into engineering deliverables.

● Lead the design and development of wireless power systems (including circuit design) for a variety of projects in parallel.

● Design will include using simulation tools such as SPICE (or equivalent) for circuits, mathematical analysis using Matlab (or equivalent), and Schematic and PCB layout using Altium.

● Development will include extensive hands-on testing with RF boards developed either in-house or by partners/customers, using oscilloscopes, VNA’s, and other test equipment.

● Influence company management, partners, and customers to support successful implementation of wireless power into products

● Contribute to and shape the development of Intellectual Property. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

● Proven track record of simulation, modeling, design, and hands-on validation of mixed signal hardware

● Circuit design and PCB design for EMI/EMC mitigation methods and techniques

● Strong understanding of electromagnetics and magnetostatics (100 KHz – 100 MHz ideally)

● Experience with validation of PA’s (1 W to 50 W), tuning/impedance matching circuits, voltage regulators

● Very strong written & verbal communications skills, and good interpersonal skills

● Proficiency in use of electrical test equipment (i.e. oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, soldering tools, etc.)

● Demonstrated success in resolution of technical challenges leveraging strong problem-solving skills

● Ability to work individually and in small teams that may include contractors working remotely

● Proficiency in use of SPICE (or equivalent) simulation tools for modeling and evaluating circuit designs

● Effectively leverages LLMs to aid in problem solving and data processing PREFERABLE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

● PA design experience of high efficiency Class D, E, F amplifiers (ideally in the 1-50Mhz range)

● DC-DC Converter experience from LF to HF (up to 10MHz preferred)

● Experience in wireless power applications

● Experience with NFC technology

● Strong understanding of Bluetooth and connectivity protocols

● Antenna/RF simulation, optimization & testing

● Experience in hardware development for mobile devices with WiFi/GPS/NFC

● Experience with C programming, and understanding communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART

● Knowledge of battery charging circuits and batteries
