Powering the connected workout

Challenge

Fitness enthusiasts have come to rely on essential gear – like phones and earbuds – to get them to the finish line. However, when a device dies, the workout is interrupted (at best) or the performance data is lost entirely (at worst). That was the opportunity for Precor and NuCurrent: To turn the connected workout from a battery drain to a battery gain. 

In an era where fitness and technology converge, Precor and NuCurrent ushered in the next generation of cardio consoles that deliver performance, fitness and entertainment: the P94 & P84 Touch Screen Consoles. Designed to meet the dynamic needs of modern gym-goers, NuCurrent developed a wireless power and data system to keep fitness enthusiasts connected to their favorite technologies — and unlock never-before-seen features — without interrupting the flow of a workout. 

Solution

For this project, NuCurrent developed a custom solution where the Low Frequency (Qi compatible) and NFC coils are co-located to allow for both power and data detection over the same charge surface area. This provides a seamless and integrated workout experience that enables users to stay connected without the constraints of conventional charging methods.
