Seamless, Fast Wireless Charging for an Ecosystem

Poly among first to earn Qi v1.3.2 certification for two of it’s leading audio conferencing devices

Challenge

Simplicity. It’s an easy concept to understand, but a difficult one to engineer. This was the challenge that faced Poly: For IT Professionals, consolidate the number of devices (or SKUs) to manage by providing an ecosystem-based wireless charging solution that works across multiple devices; and for its end-users (remote, hybrid and on-site workers) eliminate cumbersome cords from the workspace to deliver meeting equity to all.

At the same time, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) – the leading standards within the wireless power industry that created the Qi standard – was facing an even bigger challenge: How to protect consumers from non-Qi certified devices that are often referred to as “Qi-compatible” devices in an effort to appear safe and interoperable within the Qi ecosystem. In reality, these devices can be prone to dangerous overheating (and product recalls) when they meet a charger that it cannot properly couple with and worst-case scenarios ensure, like melting, explosions and more. The solution: Qi v1.3.2, a then-new certification aimed at ensuring proper interoperability and preventing the use of non-certified designs for safety and true interoperability.

Solution

NuCurrent developed the wireless charging cases for both the Voyager Free 60 and Free 60+ devices. Both are among the world’s first devices to be certified to the Qi v1.3.2 specification meaning both are able to safely charge on over 200 different wireless chargers in the Qi-certified ecosystem. Poly leverages NuCurrent’s proprietary technology to achieve the industry’s highest wireless power transfer efficiencies resulting in the fastest charge times.
